You must have heard about the importance of wearing sunscreen, especially if you spend time outside. It is advised to choose a sunscreen with UV protection of at least SPF 30. However, nowadays SPF 50 is making all the noise and is recommended by many. This applies to people of all skin types and tones. It is ideal to apply sunscreen for 30 minutes before going out into the sun. It gives it the time to settle in.

Read on further to learn more about Sunscreen SPF 50 and how it helps to protect your skin against harsh sun rays.

What is SPF and is it important?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It is most prominent in sunscreens because it helps to block the radiation of the sun from your skin.

Here's something interesting about UV rays

There are two types of radiation from the sun: UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are responsible for skin aging, thus causing wrinkles and saggy skin. Meanwhile, UVB rays cause sunburns.

Potentially every time you are in the sun or sitting near a window that has sunshine coming through it, you are exposed to this harmful radiation. This radiation can affect you even if you are not prone to sunburns.

How does SPF work?

The main work that SPF does for you is that it improves your skin’s natural defenses against the sun’s rays. The number after the SPF plays a vital role in deciding the level of protection it shall give. For example, an SPF of 20 provides about 20 times more protection than just your normal skin without sunscreen. Thus, an SPF of 50, would provide 50 times more protection than skin without sunscreen.

Ideally, you should go for a broad-spectrum sunscreen because it will block both UVA and UVB rays. Your sunscreen should at least have 30 SPF. SPF 50 is expensive but go ahead without any second thoughts if you can afford it. Wear it on all the skin that is exposed to the sun. Don't forget to apply it twice a day for maximum protection.

Should everyone use sunscreen?

Yes, everyone should use sunscreen. However, you might want to avoid using it on toddlers because the chemicals in the sunscreens can have harmful side effects on the delicate skin of toddlers. So it is advised to not use sunscreen on babies under 6 months. To protect them from any sun damage, it is preferable to keep them in shade and dress them in protective clothing.

Why should I use sunscreen?

  • Protection from UV Rays
  • Human skin can get damaged a lot from UV rays. Sunscreen helps to block these rays from damaging your skin. The rays can cause sunburns, early aging, and wrinkles. So you can save your skin from sunburn by wearing sunscreen SPF 50.

  • Lowers the chance of skin cancer
  • These days people are more and more suffering from skin cancer. One of the reasons is the UVA rays of the sun. Wearing an SPF daily can be your savior in this case.

  • Prevents aging
  • Sunscreen has a lot of benefits. And one of them is preventing aging skin. UV rays can cause early aging of the skin. The aging in the skin gives you a saggy, tired look. It causes wrinkles and fine lines, making you look older than you are. So if you don't want a fine line on your face, use sun protection SPF 50.

  • Helps in giving you an even skin tone
  • Sunscreen helps in evening out the skin tone of the face. It is common to have an uneven skin tone. However, if you want spotless skin, then you should use sunscreen daily. If you are using low SPF, leave that and shift to 50 SPF, ideal for the human skin. Sunscreen plays a major role in giving your skin a smooth texture and even tone. It also prevents discoloration.
